Vision or plan for entrepreneurship education

Thoresby is a school at the cutting edge of educational practice. A skills based curriculum is currently being developed which supports and challenges pupils at all ability levels.

Enterprise education is at the heart of that curriculum because it motivates and develops the skills of pupils at all stages: it enables them to see the purpose and relevance of their school work to their future lives. We believe, as a result, that pupils achieve more.

The main aims of our 3 year plan for enterprise education are:

1) to improve the communication of enterprise education to parents, governors and other interested partners.

2) to extend links with commercial orgnisations.

3) to utilise the expertise and employment strengths of carers, parents and grandparents.

4) to develop a common framework for the identification of learning outcomes in enterprise education.

5) to develop assessment for and of enterprise education.

Who is responsible for communicating the plan and did you get any reactions?

The enterprise education team are responsible for communicating the plan.

Students, staff and governors are particularly enthusiastic, and all year groups within the school undertake regular enterprise activities related to the 'Big 13' set of enterprise skills.

Resources to encourage and support entrepreneurship education

The school has a budget specifically for enterprise activities. Funds can be borrowed from the fund, but must be paid back. The fund is avavilable to all year groups at the school, from FS1 to Y6.

Focus on student centred learning, integration in different subjects

Pupils from all year groups have regular opportunities to develop mini-businesses, often linked to school fund-raising days or charitable orgainsations.

In addition, pupils are encouraged to identify where they are using entrepreneurial skills across the full range of school subjects and activities.

School policy dictates that every classroom must display the Big 13 skills to support this process.

Evaluation of entrepreneurship education and learning and by whom

We have recently been awarded the National Standard for Enterprise Education: Excellence in Enterpise Education.(January 2013)

This followed a lengthy period of rigorous self-evaluation undertaken by the whole school under the leadership of the enterprise champion. Ongoing evaluation against the targets in our 3 year action plan will inform our future judgements, with the intended aim of achieving the award for a second time in 2016.
