Let's Get Informed
(In)formiamoci is a project for students who are in the last two years of secondary school. It is intended to help prepare young people for making the transition from school to university and/or work. It involves input from members of trade associations and other community organisations who share their life experiences with the students and encourage them to participate in role-play and mentoring activities.
Purpose and process
The aim of Let's Get Informed is to bridge the gap between school and university, or school and the working world, through interaction between students and adult members of trade associations and community organisations. Over the time that the programme is running, association members build relationships with the students so that they become participants in their life experiences, both the successes and the failures. They involve students in a range of activities, including role-playing games, storytelling and question-times.
Association members also act as mentors, offering support to students during the period when they have to make hard decisions regarding university courses or entry into the world of work.
The purpose of the project is to stimulate and inspire students to have an open-minded approach and to be confindence in their own abilities when they have to consider the university or job opportunities .
Curricular or thematic relevance
This is an excellent way of developing meaningful careers information, advice and guidance for older students through collaboration between the school and the wider community, including employers
How to organise:
Some parts of the programme may take place during curriculum time or suspended timetable time, although mentoring is likely to occur as an extra-curricular activity.
The project depends entirely on the involvement of volunteers from national trade associations and other organisations; for example, entrepreneurs, artisans, farmers and professionals have been contributors as well as representatives of local citizens' associations.
The project is part of school initiatives planned for the orientation of the students

This is a very good method when approaching the end of upper secondary school. I especially find the idea of mentoring the students interesting
It could be really interesting to help students choose what they want to do after school. They need to be adviced by professionals and not only by their teachers. Thanks to this method, they have the opportunity to talk with professionals which share their experience. It can help students in their choice and make them aware that failure is not the end of something but the beginning of something new. Could we have more details about this method ?
